QTube - view and edit live production content, anywhere
QTube is game-changing software that enables content creators, administrators and managers to interact with their content wherever they are and wherever their content is located. QTube is already in daily use transforming content creation by globalizing workflows for media organizations of all sizes around the world.
Global workflows QTube provides worldwide access to media, including growing files. QTube supports a full range of production workflows, including viewing, logging, sub-clipping, frame accurate editing, voice-over and approval.
Applications QTube is a sophisticated software system with a number of capabilities. Each capability, or combination of capabilities, enables different applications. These different capabilities and the applications that employ them include:
Remote viewing
Scalable and precise QTube has benefits for local, national and international organizations. Its scalable architecture easily handles the many-to-many workflows that underpin content creation today. No matter how many clips are being accessed or how many users are working with them, QTube can scale to meet the requirement.
Flexible, secure and compatible QTube works with just a normal internet connection, using Microsoft IIS as the web server. IIS provides authentication and content encryption to ensure only authorized access to content. QTube's use of REST ensures easy compatibility with existing IT infrastructures including firewalls and content delivery networks.
Instant access QTube delivers instant access to any content without preparation or waiting. With QTube, if you've got the rights, you can get any media you want straight away - even clips that are still being recorded, less than 30 seconds behind live.
Multi-user access Multiple users can access multiple clips simultaneously for viewing, editing or downloading.
Multi-site working The new multi-site working capability for QTube enables users to access and seamlessly combine content from anywhere to anywhere. Creative staff can work with media held on servers in multiple locations anywhere in the world and produce a finished edit over IP incorporating clips from the different sites. QTube automatically manages the movement of only the required frames of high resolution media from all the different servers to the destination server. Enabling creative staff to work with local and remote media brings tremendous workflow gains to media organisations with multiple locations - head office and regions, region to region or even one country to another - there's always a need to share content and work together and QTube makes it all practical for the first time.
Best possible picture quality QTube always gives smooth playback over real-world internet connections. QTube dynamically changes the video data rate to match the data throughput available from the connection being used. As the throughput increases, QTube automatically increases the picture quality.
Frame accurate editing QTube enables frame accurate editing on content located thousands of miles away from the edit system.
Multi-platform support QTube's use of web-technology enables it to work on many different platforms including Mac, PC and iOS.
FCP and Avid support QTube enables web-based shot selection and exchange of QuickTime and MXF files with Final Cut Pro X and Avid Media Composer. Any third party production, editing or effects software can gain the benefits of instant access to content with QTube. Metadata and more QTube enables full access to metadata and even clip history. Using the QTube API all the clip metadata is easily available as XML. This extends to the 'manifest' - a complete list of the individual shots used in an edit.
Resilience and scalability Quantel has exploited the potential of QTube's RESTful architecture to add resilience and scalability. QTube benefits from modern stateless 'conversations', enabling it to handle many sessions simultaneously with the load automatically distributed between clustered QTube Transformers. QTube behaves gracefully under pressure with no cliff edge. QTube easily scales to meet customers' growing needs by simply adding more QTube Transformers. Regardless of the number of QTube Transformers that are clustered, they all appear as a single IP address, making operation beautifully simple. If a Transformer fails, others in the cluster automatically pick up the load until the defective unit is repaired or replaced. The system is self-configuring and inherently reliable and resilient.
QTube products
QTube Browser QTube Browser offers viewing of content via a Microsoft Silverlight-based viewer, enabling the user to search the home Enterprise sQ system and select content anywhere in the world. QTube Edit QTube Edit is an internet-enabled version of the standard Quantel editor. It allows complete timelines to be created remotely using browse quality media, with just the edit decisions published back to the home server. In this way, frame accurate video and audio edits created remotely are immediately ready for playout. QTube Transformer QTube Transformer handles security, encryption and the on-the-fly file manipulation needed to deliver a smooth user experience over the internet. The QTube Transformer also supports Apple Live Streaming allowing iPads and iPhones to access content via QTube 'straight out of the box'. Users can find, view and even download content via QTube on iPads and iPhones.
