Quantel introduces Neo
Listening to colorists produces stunning control interface for Pablo
NAB, Las Vegas, NV, 13th April 2008: Following nine months of intensive development, Quantel introduced the Neo color correction control panel for Pablo at NAB 2008.
Designed and developed in conjunction with some of the world’s top colorists, the Neo panel takes color correction to the next level. Its simple and uncluttered layout gives fast access to Pablo’s fully-featured grading toolset, and it has been designed to look great in any grading suite.
Behind Neo’s elegant simplicity, however, is some of the most advanced and well-engineered technology available anywhere, fine-tuned to provide the most precise and subtle control of color. The key to Neo’s interactive operation is ergonomics – developed as a direct result of listening to colorists.
Colorists said they never want to have to work with a mouse or a pen –
Neo has dedicated one touch controls for all major functions, an integrated keyboard and glide pads for maximum comfort in long grading sessions.
Colorists said they wanted easy access to menus –
Neo gives one-button access to all menus, e.g. HSL, RGB high/low, DVE and shapes.
Colorists said they wanted easy shape generation –
Neo has a range of pre-defined shapes available at the press of a button that can be further modified from the panel.
Colorists said they wanted interactive visual feedback for all processes –
Neo has 40 OLED displays that cover every operational aspect from simple value indications to color feedback. The OLEDs can even display pictures, making working with storyboards and reference frames simplicity itself.
Colorists said they wanted precision control –
Neo’s 2.5” trackballs have twice the mass of standard units, giving smoother, more precise operation.
Colorists said they wanted to lay out the controls their way –
Neo has exchangeable left and right hand panels that are user-configurable.
And finally…
Colorists said they wanted something that looks the business in their suite –
That’s Neo all over.
“The brief to our engineers for the Neo panel was straightforward – produce the best color control panel in the world that colorists would love,” said Quantel Director of Marketing, Steve Owen. “The engineers worked closely with leading colorists throughout Neo’s development to ensure that every need was met in full. All the colorists we’ve shown it to think our engineers have done an amazing job – Neo provides a totally natural, interactive control over every aspect of color, and it looks great in your suite, and we’re already in a back-order situation.”
