V4 software for broadcast launched at NAB
New software shortens time to air, enhances creativity and underpins shared workflows
NAB, Las Vegas, NV, 13th April 2008: Quantel’s broadcast product range got a huge boost at NAB with the launch of the new V4 software. V4 for broadcast brings a brand new ergonomic interface, many new tools and significant workflow enhancements.
Quantel’s Newsbox HD and Enterprise sQ systems can be upgraded with the new V4 software, and it is standard on the Quantel broadcast editors.
Here are the V4 for broadcast headlines:
Multilayer timeline
V4’s multilayer timeline is perfect for fast turnaround broadcast effects editing where multiple versions need to be produced in the shortest possible time. SD and HD material can be edited on the same or different layers without restriction or rendering, shortening time-to-air and enabling the broadcaster to dramatically increase output and quality. Full interchange with Final Cut Pro systems is also enabled using the open AAF format.
Dino
Dino, Quantel’s breakthrough inter-site workflow technology for news and sports production, is enabled with the V4 software release. Dino allows media and resources to be shared between locations; whether that’s inter-city, inter-state or international - with Dino, distance is no object. For full details of Dino, see separate release (Quantel – Dino).
AVC-i support
V4 introduces native AVC-i support for Quantel servers and connected editing seats. AVC-i gives broadcasters a real choice for broadcast quality and storage efficiency, offering the same quality for half the storage as DVCPRO HD, or twice the quality for the same storage.
P2 essence driver
The new essence driver technology in V4 enables Quantel’s broadcast editors to work with P2 media in SD and HD straight from the card, freely mixing this material with locally stored media on the same timeline. This development saves valuable time that would otherwise be spent loading material, most of which will not ultimately be used - perfect in the close-to-air editing environment where every second counts.
Wider access and control
V4 enables Video Disc Control Protocol (VDCP) in Quantel’s broadcast systems, enabling Quantel customers to choose from the wide range of third-party systems supporting VDCP.
4-channel playout panel
New with V4 is an optional 4-channel sQ Play playout panel. Its compact size and simple layout are perfect for the busy on-air studio control room.
“V4 gives broadcasters more flexibility in media handling as well as a major boost to toolsets and productivity,” said Quantel Head of Broadcast Marketing, Trevor Francis. “Dino extends all those benefits into the world’s first viable inter-site shared workflow solution. V4 is a milestone release which will be welcomed by all our many broadcast customers.”
