Double speed HDCAM SR ingest for iQ and Pablo launched at NAB
Quantel responds to TV GLOBO request with major workflow boost
NAB, Las Vegas, NV, 13th April 2008: Quantel announced support for double speed ingest from Sony’s HDCAM SR™ at NAB 2008. This new development halves the time taken to load material into Quantel’s iQ DI and Pablo color correction systems – providing a massive productivity gain for broadcasters and post houses working on fast turnaround, high quality editorial work.
Quantel’s development of double speed ingest was the result of a request from top Brazilian broadcaster, TV GLOBO.
TV GLOBO produces and broadcasts daily ‘Novellas’ which command a staggering 70% total TV audience share. Novellas are high quality serial dramas shot in the HDCAM SR format and broadcast in HD. Storylines are guided by audience polls, and changes are made in response to poll results right down to the wire, demanding an incredibly fast turnaround from TV GLOBO’s production and post teams. The double speed playout and ingest facility cuts conform times by 50% while maintaining all the quality and integrity of the HD RGB material, winning TV GLOBO valuable time in post.
“We went to see Quantel at NAB in 2007 to ask them if it would be possible to implement the Sony double speed feature,” said Nélson Faria, Engineering Director responsible for TV GLOBO´s Entertainment. “Quantel and Sony worked hard and we now have the fastest, highest quality HD workflow around.”

The double speed ingest HDCAM SR facility is now available as standard on all iQ and Pablo 2K and 4K systems.
